By Graham "GSM" Matthews Stardust def. Darren Young I know I wasn't the only one surprised to see Stardust in action after he teased on Twitter on Monday that he was doing away with the gimmick. Now, that might be something coming down the road and not immediately, but sooner the better in my opinion as he's beyond irrelevant at this point and a change in character could do wonders for him. Meanwhile, I've said in the past that Young doesn't get the credit he deserves for being as competent of a worker as he is, and he certainly does try to get the crowd behind him during his matches. The audience was relatively quiet for this contest, but it was enjoyable while it lasted. Titus O'Neil def. Tyler Breeze Is it just me or is anyone else starting to get sick of Breeze's opponents mimicking his middle-of-the-rope taunt? It was funny when Jushin Liger did it in Brooklyn, but now everyone seems to be doing it and it's grown old fast. You don't need me to tell you that Breeze is stuck in a rut at the moment and how disappointing it is to see, but at least O'Neil is winning on a consistent basis. Now the question is whether they will ever elevate him to the next level with these victories or continue to relegate him to Superstars.

By RJ Marceau Wow, the WWE keeps making headlines. First the WWE signed Austin Aeries to WWE NXT. Then the “Phenomenal” AJ Styles debuts in the Royal Rumble and yesterday it was announced that Shinsuke Nakamura will being coming to the WWE. Spoiler Alert: Nakamura was announced to be facing Sami Zayn at NXT TakeOver: Dallas on April 1st, 2016. When the reports came out that the WWE had signed Kevin Owens, Hideo Itami, Finn Balor and Asuka I honestly had no idea who they were. I’m not a big indy guy and never have been. The WWE is my cup of tea and tastes just fine with me. I do enjoy Lucha Underground but I haven’t really got into Ring of Honor or New Japan Pro Wrestling. I realized that I was missing some good wrestling on the independent scene and decided to watch a few matches on YouTube. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Titus O'Neil, Dolph Ziggler and The Usos def. The Miz and WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day Although this was a random assortment of wrestlers that aren't feuding at the moment (aside from New Day and The Usos), I can't complain about an enjoyable eight-man tag team match to kick off the show. I would usually complain about this type of match not serving a purpose, but it's been a damn good week in wrestling, so I'll give it a pass. If you didn't like it, well, all I can say is to get used to it as we're bound to see more of this as WrestleMania draws near and these lower-midcarders are involved in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. It was refreshing to see O'Neil score the win for his team, but as I've said several times as of late, WWE needs to give fans a reason to care about him beyond his recent winning streak. United States Champion Kalisto def. Neville I'm not exactly sure what Neville did to earn an opportunity to contend for the championship, but I'd be damned if this match wasn't fun to watch. I'm just surprised it wasn't advertised ahead of time as promoting title matches always lead to a bump in the ratings. Kalisto and Neville are such perfect opponents for each other that I'd love to see them mix it up in a Best of Five or Seven Series over the star-spangled prize. It would certainly help elevate the title as well as both aerial artists, but the commentators brought up Alberto Del Rio during this bout, leading me to believe their feud isn't yet over. By RJ Marceau This past Sunday we had one of the best installments of The Royal Rumble followed by a good Monday Night Raw. Since the inception of the Royal Rumble in 1988, it has been one of the WWE’s big four PPVs and held in January. The WWE has always had a February PPV but in recent years the show isn’t anything special due to the predictability of the matches and the angles they will be going with into WrestleMania. The WWE should move The Royal Rumble to February and bring back No Way Out in January and here’s why. |
